The town of Lindsay is located in the heart of the Washita Valley, once described by Gen. John C. Fremont as the "Garden of Eden." In his 1849 report to the U.S. Government, Fremont observed, "If there is a Garden of Eden in the Western Hemisphere, it is in the Washita Valley." Recognized as the third most fertile valley in the world, the place is home for some 3,000 Lindsay residents, and is centrally located at the junctions of State Highways 19 and 76.

Visitors to Lindsay will want to take a look at its many historic homes, including the Murray Lindsay Mansion, built in 1879 by Frank and Alzira Murray. Originally a two-story structure built of solid rock with 18" interior walls, the building was opened to the public in 1986, after being restored by the Lindsay Community Historical Society. Guide tours are now available, free of charge. Each May the city is host to a Founder's Day Festival and Rodeo, complete with arts and crafts, music, food, a carnival and parade. Other events, including Fourth of July and Christmas celebrations, are held throughout the year.
